A New Year - A new game - Bolt Action!

I have been on the fence with this game system for some time, ... but some time to read D-Day by Ambrose over the Xmas break, ... an Xmas sale by Warlord Games, with free shipping, and my resistance crumbled... and its WWII... and a skirmish game after all... resistance was futile! ;-)

Have got the Panzer assembled  so far... the main set to start ASAP...

Looking forward to trying it out :)

Hope to try out some movie moments - Saving Private Ryan, and of course Kelly's Heroes... just going to have to do an 'Oddball' Sherman!

  1. I'm also leaning towards getting a small force for Bolt Action (and Chain of Command) but the pile of other stuff is still too large :D

  2. Woohoo, you caved! Let me know when you've got some of your toys painted, maybe a demo game at the Kapiti club to drum up more interest?

  3. I'm interested, if it is a reasonably small project. I've been reading Max Hastings' history of WW2 over the Xmas break, which has been a real eye-opener. For example, I never knew there was as much Allies vs Vichy French fighting as there was. Even though I've never been especially interested in WW2 before, some of the new Perry models have caught my eye.

    1. The nice thing about it is, since its a skirmish game, you can entertain it at whatever level you wish... and at 28mm always makes for enjoyable painting and modelling :)

    2. Some of the plastic boxes, like the commandos, are great as you can get a full usable 500 point force (which is a good starting point apparently) out of one box.

  4. I've played Bolt Action a few times now and it seems quite good. Just make sure you have a lot of scenery. You don't want to get caught in the open!

  5. I actually have a bunch of their plastic WWII boxes languishing in my loft as well as all the books on my shelf...perhaps your posts will motivate me to get my act together!

  6. good call scott, probably the best player vs player rule set on the market right now, (some say Xwing, but I cant comment on that) real strategy and tactics, while its still a probability dice game it just feels right...
    have fun.
